Library

Our volunteer librarians manage the "Joan Bateman & Sanda Scott Speer Library" located at 2 North Shore Road.  All are welcome to visit and use the library daily, May - October. There is no checkout system, simply take the book(s) that you like. During the peak of summer, the library sees approximately 75 books circulate through the shelves weekly.  The library is stocked purely by donations.

Septic System Tips

Maintaining your septic system is crucial for protecting lake life and ensuring water quality. A well-functioning septic system prevents contaminants from entering the water, preserving the natural ecosystem Here are a few tips for maintaining your system:

  1. Schedule regular inspections and pump-outs to prevent backups and ensure proper function.

  2. Avoid flushing non-biodegradable, chemicals, or excess grease that can disrupt the system.

  3. Keep the area around your septic system clear of heavy vehicles and plants to prevent damage.

  4. Have your septic system pumped on a regular basis. It is typically recommended every 3-5 years, depending on use. Consult a professional to determine the best frequency for you.

By following these tips, you can protect the health of your lake and its surroundings.  More information on septic system best practices can be found through Maine Lakes.
